Wayne J. Olan, MD is board-certified in Radiology, and is the Director of Interventional and Endovascular Neurosurgery, and an associate professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He also serves as Co-director of the Endovascular Stroke Program at GW. He completed his training in Radiology in New York and fellowship training in Neuroradiology with subspecialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology at GW.

He joined the department of neurosurgery at GW after serving 10 years as the director of Interventional Neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins Medicine/ Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. He continues as a consulting physician to the National Institutes of Health. He is also a consulting physician to the White House and Congressional Medical Staffs.  He is a member of many professional societies including the Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, American Medical Association, American Society of Neuroradiology, American Society of Spine Radiology, North American Spine Society and the Society of Neuro Interventional Surgery

Dr. Olan’s clinical and research interests involve the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, including the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and the treatment of stroke.  He performs aneurysm coiling, extra-cranial and intra-cranial artery stenting, embolization of AVMs, and embolization of head/neck tumors.  In addition, he has interests in pain management, interventional treatment of spinal disorders and the degenerative spine.

Dr. Olan has published extensively on minimally invasive spinal interventions, and endovascular treatments and techniques. He has lectured and teaches all over the globe on minimally invasive spinal and endovascular techniques and devices, and is involved in the development of many skills, techniques and devices in both arenas.

A native of Long Island, Dr. Olan also coaches lacrosse at the Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Maryland.
